Contrary to popular belief a banger is not just any song you even remotely enjoy. These are ten of the best EDM bangers of all time.
A banger is a song that makes everyone rush the dance floor and get rowdy, or turn up the stereo and make noises of approval, like, woo! It’s not necessarily the best track by a particular artist, but it is the most popular one. Most people are sheep. You already knew this. These are the top EDM bangers so far, as selected by Slutty Raver Costumes, listed by view count on YouTube.
“Alone”
- Artist: Marshmello
- Year: 2016
- Label: Monstercat
“Alone” launched Marshmello into superstardom when he dropped it in 2016. At 1.36 billion plays it is by far the most played track on this list and Monstercat’s only certified platinum record. The best part is that he’s wearing a fucking marshmallow on his head. That’s a piece of candy!
“Where Are Ü Now”
- Artists: Skrillex, Diplo and Justin Bieber
- Year: 2015
- Label: Warner Music Group
When Skrillex and Diplo, aka Jack Ü, announced they were producing music with Justin Bieber, many commented that they had sold out. But they counted their money instead of the haters. The track has over a billion views on YouTube, mostly teenage girls and young women watching Bieber.
“Turn Down for What”
- Artists: DJ Snake and Lil Jon
- Year: 2013
- Label: Sony Music Entertainment
In 2013 DJ Snake and Lil Jon asked the world why they should turn it down. No one was really sure if they meant the volume, or if they were referring to something else like energy. But they might have to turn it down to prevent a public disturbance or avoid permanent hearing damage.
“We Found Love”
- Artists: Rihanna and Calvin Harris
- Year: 2011
- Label: Universal Music Group
Calvin Harris wrote and produced “We Found Love” with Rihanna in 2011. It went straight to the top of the Billboard Top 100 for ten consecutive weeks, surpassing her previous hit “Umbrella” (2008). Something about the theme of finding love in a hopeless place really speaks to the masses.
“Habits” (Remix)
- Artists: Tove Lo and Hippie Sabotage
- Year: 2014
- Label: Warner Music Group
“Habits (Stay High)” (Hippie Sabotage Remix) was part of Tove Lo‘s 2014 album Queen of the Clouds. While “Talking Body” was a contemporary hit radio favorite, “Habits” was the most streamed online. Some were worried about her drug problem, and Hippie Sabotage proved they were good.
“Firestone”
- Artists: Kygo and Conrad Sewell
- Year: 2014
- Label: Sony Music Entertainment
Norwegian producer Kygo released “Firestone” with Australian songwriter Conrad Sewell. It was Kygo’s first international hit. According to Sewell, “Our hearts are like firestones/ And when they strike, we feel the love/ Sparks will fly, they ignite our bones/ And when they strike, we light up the world…“
“Levels”
- Artist: Avicii
- Year: 2011
- Label: Universal Music Group
“Levels” is a quintessential track that a lot of people made fun of. It has been called the “Freebird” of EDM because everyone requests it. Others say it is Avicii‘s greatest song of all time, before his tragic death in 2018. Maybe what he was saying is that DJ’s need to check their audio levels.
“Closer”
- Artists: The Chainsmokers and Halsey
- Year: 2016
- Label: Sony Music Entertainment
In 2016 “Closer” made the Chainsmokers and Halsey really famous. Halsey was a pop singer that was actually good, and everyone and their mom wanted to work with the Chainsmokers after that. Andrew Taggart said that the track was inspired by “I Miss You” by Blink 182 — but it was better.
“Stay the Night”
- Artists: Zedd and Hayley Williams
- Year: 2013
- Label: Warner Music Group
Zedd is a progressive music producer, meaning he gets better each time around. When he produced a track for Haley Williams of Paramore the song was a smash hit. Six years later it is one of his most played videos. Although if you do the math “The Middle” might be more popular.
“Never Be Like You”
- Artists: Flume and Kai
- Year: 2016
- Label: PIAS/Future Classic
Flume and Kai played the victim in their 2016 hit “Never Be Like You.” Or maybe what they meant is that there is no point in comparing yourself to other people. Debuting on Flumes studio length album Skin, it was his first song to top the charts. There was a Disclosure remix that was really cool.
We didn’t want to overload the page with videos because it would take forever to load. But other amazing EDM bangers that didn’t make it into the top ten include the following.
