In the music video for “Not Okay” Kygo and Chelsea Cutler suggest that no one is okay and give us a peak into the ladies room.
The ladies room is a sacred space in the club where women congregate. If you could somehow hear their thoughts you would hear a lot of different stuff from insecure to self confident and philosophical. In the music video for “Not Okay” by Kygo and Chelsea Cutler that is what happens.
“It’s midnight and I’m wasted/ So wasted, I’m wasted/ I can’t believe I’m calling you up again/ I know I might be crazy/ So crazy, I’m crazy/ I can’t believe I’m calling you just to say/ I’m not okay…” sings Cutler.
Cutler doesn’t appear in the video, unless she is in the background. Instead it is parade of different women through the ladies room where a restroom attendant is available to talk if they need her. The thoughts of each woman are shown in the captions. Some of them are searching for validation, others are confident about themselves, some are wasted and making out.
Kygo, aka Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll, also released a remix of “Higher Love” by Whitney Houston last week. “Not Okay” is going to be part of his third studio length album along with “Happy Now” featuring Sandra Cavazza, “Think About You” featuring Valerie Broussard, and more.
Cutler is a pop singer from Connecticut. Some of her previous tracks include “you were good to me” with Jeremy Zucker, “Your Shirt” and “You’re Not Missing Me.” They were all singles.
On Instagram Cutler posted a live acoustic performance with real instruments. Kygo posted the clip where two women make out, completely missing the point of his own music video.
