UO x Betsey Johnson Bring Back Grunge Era Dresses

Urban Outfitters teamed up with Betsey Johnson to bring back some of her most popular dress designs from the 90’s for a limited time.

In the 1990’s the Betsey Johnson slip dress was one of the coolest things ever. Now they’re bringing it back at Urban Outfitters for a limited run, along with baby dolls and other celebrated styles. Here are some of our favorite picks from the Urban Outfitters x Betsey Johnson collaboration.

The Betsey Johnson UO Exclusive Butterfly Puff Sleeve Babydoll Dress ($79) was inspired by Johnson’s 1997 collection. The light blue baby doll dress has a cinched empire waist and butterfly pattern and contrast trim. They style it with a choker, which is also a throwback.

But maybe you don’t care for butterflies. The Betsey Johnson UO Exclusive Printed Lace Trim Slip Dress ($79) is a green slip midi dress featuring a pattern of dragonflies. It is cut in a curve enhancing, empire waist fit with ruched detailing at the waist, hem and bust.

The Betsey Johnson UO Exclusive Allover Bow Mini Dress ($89) is a sheer white baby doll dress with bow detailing all over it. The garment features puff sleeves and a subtle sweetheart neckline with a built in mini slip liner. Wear it with Dr. Martens and colorful dyed hair for a contrast effect.

The Betsey Johnson UO Exclusive Burnout Heart Mesh Trim Mini Dress ($99) is a frilly pink slip dress with a pattern of hearts that look like leopard print. The curve hugging dress has adjustable straps, a straight neckline and a tulle skirt. In the 90’s women used to wear sandals like the model is wearing that were basically a platform sole with a piece of elastic over them. Remember?

In the cover image at the top of the page you see Alice in Wonderland wearing the Betsey Johnson UO Exclusive Prom Queen Strapless Chiffon Midi Dress ($350). They contrast the ultra feminine dress with a leather jacket. See more looks in the Urban Outfitters blog.

Oh their official Instagram account Betsey Johnson representatives point out that Sarah Michelle Gellar used to wear Betsey Johnson slip dresses on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997), and in Cruel Intentions (1999). Those were some of the best shows of the 1990’s and 2000’s.
