Mark Ronson and Diplo at Silk City

Silk City Drop Disco House Track ‘Only Can Get Better’

Silk City or Diplo and Mark Ronson just blew everybody’s mind by dropping “Only Can Get Better” about a month ahead of Governor’s Ball 2018.

It turns out that Silk City, the side side project of Diplo and Mark Ronson, is a disco house project, and, “An homage to some of the greatest dance music cities, Chicago, London, Paris, Detroit.” They debuted the song “Only Can Get Better” featuring Daniel Merriweather with a visual.

According to Billboard, “Silk City just dropped the world’s panties with its debut single. It’s a ‘2000s disco-house dream with layers of neon noise and a perfectly ascending bassline. It’s almost too delicious for words. It’s almost Daft Punk-ian.” The review was written by music writer Kat Bein.

Previously Slutty Raver Costumes reported that Silk City was the first venue where Diplo ever DJ-ed. But SPIN Magazine points out that it is also the first place that Diplo, aka Thomas Wesley Pentz, was banned for life. So he can’t go back there for the Philly cheesesteak or the famous meatloaf.

In 2016, the music producer told Indie Mag he had been blacklisted from a lot of nightclubs. At the time he stated, “My first banning was a club called Silk City in Philadelphia. I broke the bouncer’s leg and gave him a bowl of pepper sauce or something. I was banned there forever. I used to fight a lot in clubs. I’m also banned from Le Bain in New York City.”

Ronson premiered the track on BBC 1 via Annie Mac’s program. On Instagram he said, “It was an extremely fun and slightly herculean undertaking to craft a mix that hints at all the loves both brand new, classic and somewhere in the middle that make up the world of Silk City. House, disco, funk, classic hip hop, some dumb bootlegs — we tried to get it all in there for you.”

Silk City also promised that a collaboration with Dua Lipa is dropping this summer.

Be sure to catch Silk City in their music festival premier at Governor’s Ball 2018 in New York. Dua Lipa is featured in “One Kiss” by Calvin Harris in a retro new music video.
