Rezz’s newest single “Falling” features lyrics by Underoath, which is different from her previous tracks that were instrumentals.
The latest single by Rezz is “Falling” featuring Aaron Gillespie of Underoath. In contrast to her previous records the song has lyrics. But they are hardcore emo lyrics suitable for alt rock radio.
“Is it enough that I feel like I’m falling/ Is it enough that I can’t stay/ I don’t wanna be like this…” wails Gillespie over the EDM track. He seems angry and depressed about something.
Rezz, aka Isabelle Rezazadeh from Ontario, has released instrumental music in the past, which is music without lyrics. Her previous two albums Certain Kind of Magic (2018) and Mass Manipulation (2017) dropped via Mau5trap Recordings, aka Deadmau5‘s record label. Although she is a role model to many female EDM fans, instrumentals don’t usually go mainstream. This new single has the potential to be more popular, and is reminiscent of something Korn would have done in the 1990’s. But the lyrics are emo so she can still maintain some of her street cred.
Underoath is a post hardcore screamo band that was active from 1993 to 2013, and reformed in 2015. This makes them contemporaries with From First to Last, aka Skrillex‘s first band. Rezz was discovered via Skrillex’s blog Nest HQ. So you see we’re all connected in the great circle of life.
The track will be part of Rezz’s upcoming Beyond the Senses EP out on June 24, 2019.
Rezz recently dropped the track at a large musical event and posted the footage on her official Instagram account. There were pillars of fire on the stage, and everyone jumped around.
Rezz is playing the Brooklyn Mirage on June 21, Mad Decent Block Party 2019 in Foxborough, Massachusetts on June 21, and the Bud Light Dreams Festival 2019 in Toronto from June 29-30. Cop your tickets at Songkick. And don’t forget the funny light up Rezz glasses.
