The Vans x David Bowie collection of sneakers, shirts and accessories is nearly sold out. You can still cop them on Ebay for twice the price.
From his early punk days to his androgynous disco days to his golden years in pop, David Bowie was one of the most controversial and influential figures in music history. Now he is on several pairs of Vans, as well as some shirts and a hat. However the limited edition collection has already almost sold out. They are however selling on Ebay, at over twice the original asking price.
From top to bottom you see the Vans x DB Sk8-Hi ($80/pair), Vans x DB Old Skool ($75/pair), Vans x DB Sk8-Hi Platform 2.0 ($85), Vans x DB Classic Slip-On ($70), Vans x DB Era ($70), Vans x DB Slip-On 47 ($75). They have David Bowies logo on them right next to the Vans logo!
The problem is that the shoes are unisex, and men’s sneakers are considered collectible items. So somebody decided to buy them all up, and then sell them online for about $150 to $300 each. That’s a profit of over double the investment. Or maybe there is a sneaker conspiracy, and Vans just posted one pair in each size online, and then posted them on Ebay themselves.
Is this really the best way to pay tribute to the music of David Bowie – like “Space Oddity,” “Under Pressure,” “Heroes,” “Starman,” “Fame,” “China Girl,” “Suffragette City” and “Changes?”
On their official Instagram account, the brand points out that you may be able to score a pair in store. They also have a lot of kid’s sizes still available for the children.
