The art installations stole the show at Day for Night 2017 especially one plucky net full of disco balls. Oh and some people performed music.
Last weekend Day for Night 2017 went down at the historic Barbara Jordan Post Office in Houston, Texas. The holiday music festival featured headlining performances by musical guests Nine Inch Nails, Thom Yorke, Solange, Justice, St. Vincent, Pretty Lights, Pussy Riot, Cashmere Cat and many more. But most of the images posted on Instagram were of a disco ball themed art installation.
The art installation in question was “Light Leaks” by Kyle McDonald and Jonas Jongejan. It was a big net full of disco balls with shiny lights pointed at them to create a luminescent effect in the surrounding area.
The whole event was designed to be Instagram friendly with elaborate light shows. According to the official website, “The visual artists build experiences within the blurred boundaries of performance, interaction and immersive installations both indoors and out. Large scale projections and site-specific custom-built structures bring a heightened sensorial experience to new audiences.”

Day for Night was a multi genre experience that included the best of indie, pop, hip hop and EDM so costumes didn’t take first priority. However next weekend is Lights All Night 2017 in Dallas, which has an all EDM lineup that includes Bassnectar, Porter Robinson and Seven Lions. They will need some impressive light installations to compete with these though.
