Possibly the most well known movie ever about being a professional groupie is coming to the theater in Almost Famous: The Musical.
Almost Famous: The Musical is based on the really famous movie of the same name from the year 2000. According to The Uncool, the official music blog of Cameron Crowe, whose life the movie was based on, and who wrote the screenplay, it will premiere in San Diego on September 27, 2019 at the Old Globe Theater. The play will run there until October 20, 2019.

The press release from the Old Globe stated the following:
It’s all happening… San Diego, 1973. Led Zeppelin is king, Richard Nixon is President, and idealistic 15-year-old William Miller is an aspiring music journalist. When Rolling Stone magazine hires him to go on the road with an up-and-coming band, William is thrust into the rock-and-roll circus, where his love of music, his longing for friendship, and his integrity as a writer collide. Written by Academy Award winner Cameron Crowe based on his iconic film, Almost Famous is about a young man finding his place in the world and the indelible characters he meets along the way. Directed by Tony Award nominee Jeremy Herrin, it features classic hits as well as new songs by Pulitzer Prize and two-time Tony Award winner Tom Kitt. This joyous world premiere is a celebration of community and the power of music.
Crowe told Rolling Stone, the magazine central to the plot of Almost Famous, that he used to go to the Old Globe with his family as a youth. “My family used to live in an apartment on 6th Street in San Diego, right across the street from Balboa Park and the Old Globe. He continues, “My parents would take me to see some of the great plays by Shakespeare right there in the park.”
It’s anyone’s guess what songs the musical will include. Surely Stillwater will perform “Fever Dog.” And there is the classic scene where everyone sings along to “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John. Will there be new music composed by Kitt? Or will they stick to the rock standards from the soundtrack?
It’s all happening at the Old Globe this fall. Tickets have yet to be announced. But for more information you could visit the official website of the Old Globe.
