In the music video for “Famoso” by AlunaGeorge a group of women dance around in their underwear to protest sexism in the music industry.
“Famous” by AlunaGeorge dropped last year on the Champagne Eyes EP, but it didn’t get a music video. This year the official video for Portuguese remix titled “Famoso” reveals more about it.
“Te mostrar seu túmulo (I’ll show you your grave) / And say “uh la la, uh la la”/ Eu posso te fazer famoso (I can make you famous)…” goes the Portuguese chorus. The rest of the song is still in English.
Men will say anything to get women to sleep with them. In the entertainment industry they will often promise to make you famous. They will say this even if they cannot make you famous, which is usually the case. If by some chance a man actually is a celebrity and not completely deluded or a liar, they will often tell you they will make you rich and famous for sex, then take it back later. When the women dance around holding signs that say stuff like, “I can make you famous,” it refers to things men have told them before, because they wanted to have sex with them.
Of course men do this to each other too, but for other reasons like power. One of the easiest ways to fool someone is to promise them something they want, even if it’s too good to be true. But sometimes it seems like women don’t even get a chance because they “just want to use men,” like it says in all the songs. When really men are using them just as much if not more. And when they are respectful to women in the music industry, it’s usually the ones that are already famous because they want something from them too. Everybody uses everybody else.
On Instagram AlunaGeorge revealed that the video was directed by Gabriel Fontes. They also posted footage from a show in Malaysia. The duo consists of Aluna Francis and George Reid.
