The music video for “DJ’s Gotta Dance More” by A-Trak featuring Todd Terry and Cory Enemy combines old school house and hip hop.
In “DJ’s Gotta Dance More” A-Trak and Cory Enemy play music while Brooklyn legend Todd Terry talks about how great old school house music is, which he has been active in since 1987.
“I remember back in the days/ Digging in the crates/ Looking for tracks and loops/ Playing records all day/ Cause I wanted to be different/ Real DJs know/ That’s how you get your style/ DJs gotta dance more/ So you know what it feels like on the dance floor…” recites Terry.
Terry is referring to the days before the internet, when you had to buy records or CD’s if you wanted to hear music other than what they played on the radio in between commercials. The act of going through old recordings to discover new sounds is known as crate digging.
On Instagram A-Trak, aka Alain Macklovitch from French Canada, explains the concept for the music video. “I wanted to reflect the sort of quiet, intimate vibe of the song. My brother @dave1 came up with the idea of doing an in-studio video,” writes the DJ. “The track was produced by myself and @coryenemy so the vid just shows us and @djtoddterry in the lab, making the song and connecting. It was directed by @laurensick and shot on 16mm film ??,” he continues.
