The winter encompasses the holidays and resort/cruise season. These are the best EDM festivals to be seen at in winter 2019/2020.

It may not technically be “festival season” but the wintertime has many EDM festivals of note, especially holiday celebrations and booze cruises. January and February are the perfect time to go south of the border to the Caribbean or Latin America because the weather is ideal.

I Love Techno Europe 2019

If you really loved techno then you would be at I Love Techno Europe each year (Balenciaga). The annual event took place in Ghent, Belgium from 1995 to 2014. The original lineup included Daft Punk and Richie Hawtin. They release a self-titled compilation album each year.

HiJinx Festival 2019

• Dates: December 27-28, 2019
• Location: Pennsylvania Convention Center, Philadelphia, PA
• Headliners: Bassnectar, Excision, Porter Robinson, Skrillex, Zeds Dead and more!

HiJinx Festival returns for its sophomore year with a bass heavy lineup that follows Christmas. The event is held in downtown Philadelphia, but Skrillex will be there for at least an hour. Note that a portion of the rail is reserved for a VIP section, and there will be after parties.

MTV Snowglobe 2019

• Dates: December 20-31, 2019
• Location: Bijou Community Park, Lake Tahoe, CA
• Headliners: Skrillex, Louis the Child, Tchami x Malaa, Vice Staples, E-40 and more!

MTV acquired Snowglobe Festival in November 2018 according to Variety Magazine. And the event can only go downhill from here. They booked Skrillex as headliner because that is the only EDM producer that corporate America knows about. They also have rappers like previous years.

Resolution Seattle 2020

• Dates: December 31, 2019
• Location: Wamu Theater, Seattle, WA
• Headliners: Adventure Club, Knife Party, Jack Beats, AC Slater and more!

Ring in the new year in Seattle with a lot of people who work at tech companies in Seattle. The event features a bass heavy lineup with performers and vendors on New Year’s Eve 2020. Representatives stated the importance of safety and hydration cannot be stressed enough.

AMF Friendship 2020

• Dates: January 6-10, 2020
• Location: Miami, FL to CocoCay, Bahamas
• Headliners: Destructo, Boys Noize, Wax Motif, Troyboi, Astronomar and more!

The AMFAMFAMF Friendship departs from Florida to CocoCay, a tiny island in the Bahamas. CocoCay has a population of 38, and is owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. And yes they have water slides there. Be sure to check out their website for the full itinerary.

Groove Cruise Miami 2020

Progressive house music fans have a chance to reconnect on Groove Cruise Miami 2020. This year there is a four-day adventure from Florida to Mahahual, Mexico, south of Cancun. Costa Maya is a small town near the border with Belize, known mostly for ecological tourism.

BPM Festival Costa Rica 2020

If you would rather backpack through Latin America than do a cruise, consider the BPM Festival 2019. BPM stood for Bartenders, Promoters and Musicians when the festival started in Playa del Carmen, Mexico in 2008. They also host EDM festivals in Portugal and Israel each year.

Holy Ship! 2020

This year the theme of Holy Ship! is Wrecked and they are doing a resort party instead of a cruise. They are taking over the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana and all-inclusive resort packages are available. There will be theme nights and DJ’s from a lot of different record labels.

Igloofest 2020

• Dates: January 15 to February 7, 2020
• Location: Montreal, Canada

Back up north in French Canada, Igloofest takes place over the course of several weeks. The 14th edition of Igloofest promises to bring you nine unforgettable nights of outdoor music. So it is more of a concert series than a music festival but it can be both — because this is EDM!
