Skrillex and Gesaffelstein produced on the Weeknd’s surprise My Dear Melancholy EP that was probably inspired by Selena Gomez.
This weekend, the Weeknd dropped his My Dear Melancholy EP, without a warning beforehand. The six-track release includes two songs produced by Gesaffelstein, and one by Skrillex. Since this follows the notorious break up with Selena Gomez, clearly most of the songs must be about her.
My Dear Melancholy EP Tracklisting
1. Call Out My Name
2. Try Me
3. Wasted Times (produced by Skrillex)
4. I Was Never There (produced by Gesaffelstein)
5. Hurt You (produced by Gesaffelstein)
6. Privilege
The Weeknd, a.k.a. Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, announced the EP via Instagram, stating simply, “Tonight.” Meanwhile, Skrillex broke a 30-day long hiatus on Instagram to reveal he produced “Wasted Times” on the Weeknd’s surprise EP.
French producer Gesaffelstein, or Mike Lévy, does not have an Instagram account. But he does have a Facebook page where he wrote, “The Weeknd feat Gesaffelstein ‘Hurt you’ and ‘ I was never there’,” (sic). He has produced music for A$AP Rocky, Lana Del Rey and Tiga before this.
The sensual lyrics of “Wasted Times” seem to indicate that Tesfaye may have slept with another woman during his relationship with Gomez, possibly while she was hospitalized for kidney transplant surgery. “Wasted times I spent with someone else/ She wasn’t even half of you/ Reminiscin’ how you felt…/ And even though you put my life through hell/ I can’t seem to forget ’bout you…” laments the Weeknd in the new song.
In addition to the EP, there are limited edition t-shirts and outerwear from the Weeknd’s clothing line XO Til We Overdose. The 2018 Release 001 lookbook was posted on his blog. The line includes a black tee with the words, “Only time invested” under a graphic print of orange hands.

Skrillex’s last bomb on Instagram was the cute puppy he adopted a few weeks ago. Listen to the song he produced on Camilla Cabello’s debut album after this.
