“Le Freak” by Chic was one of the biggest hits of the late 70’s. Now there is an official house remix by Oliver Heldens, plus an animated video.
The “Le Freak” riff followed by the words “Freak out!” is unmistakable. They have played it on the radio enough times to drive you insane. But Oliver Helden’s remix has a refreshing house beat. The official remix of the track comes with an animated video of people dancing in a discotheque.
“Like the days of stopping at the Savoy/ Now they freak, oh what a joy/ Just come on down, to fifty four/ Find a spot out on the floor/ Aaahh freak out..!” the song references Studio 54.
Originally released in 1978, the single was number one on the disco charts for seven weeks. Billboard Magazine ranked in the number three song of 1979. It was written by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers, the founding guitarist and bassist of Chic. It has been sampled at least 103 times.
Heldens tags Rogers on his official Instagram account, adding, “I’m super excited my official remix of ‘Chic – Le Freak’ is finally out today on its 40th Anniversary! This remix is very special to me, I hope you like it as much as I do ???.”
Edwards passed away in 1996. Heldens was born in 1995, and was one year old at the time. He does a lot of official remixes for the likes of Avicii, Martin Garrix, Calvin Harris, Katy Perry and more.
Chic “Le Freak” (Oliver Heldens Remix) is available now via Big Beat and official music distributors.
