Gucci is giving us the chance to pick our own letters and colors on knitwear, tote bags and sneakers for thousands of dollars!
The Gucci stripe is a sign that a sweater is authentic Gucci, along with the logo. Now they offer DIY knitwear, sneakers and maxi totes in a limited range of colors, and the English alphabet.
The collection is available exclusively on Gucci’s online boutique and at the Gucci Wooster space in New York. Each purchase comes in special packaging printed with ABCDEFGucci. Gucci also worked with several artists who interpreted the tote and sneakers with their personal touch.
Gucci DIY knitwear consists of customized house knits in a pullover, cardigan with buttons, or a cardigan with a zipper. They all look a lot alike but with different features. It has a vintage cheerleader vibe. You can choose any letter of the alphabet but only one. The letter on the cardigans is embroidered on the back. Color combinations include blue and orange, green and white, white and blue, or red and white. All for the price of $1,700 each plus tax.
There is a wider variety of options in the shoe department. The DIY Women’s Ace Sneaker ($980) can carry up to two letters. But there’s no numbers so you can’t do any funny combinations like 69 or 420. However the initials can be written in five shades of leather, gold or metallic pink leather, three colors of python, or felt with crystals. The DIY Ophidia GG Supreme Maxi Tote ($3,290) only has one letter. But it comes in seven shades of leather, python, felt with crystals, and five kinds of caiman, which is a small alligator native to Central and South America.
On Instagram Gucci shared an illustration of the DIY Knitwear by Brianda Fitz James Stuart. Gucci captions the image, “Imagining the #GucciDIY customizable wool knits, @briandafjstuart’s whimsical illustrations are inspired by Renaissance paintings—including ‘Leda and the Swan’ by Leonardo Da Vinci and Botticelli’s Three Graces from ‘Primavera.’ ‘I love to draw women with a mythology, unreal halo, and shake the classics with a pop touch.'”
