New York Fashion Week 2018 is abuzz about these Tom Ford handbags and shoes that boldly read “PUSSY POWER.” It’s a feminist statement for the brand.
The Tom Ford Fall 2018 women’s collection at New York Fashion week included glittery clutches and kitten heels that say “PUSSY POWER” on them.
There were two clutches on sparkly chains that looked suitable for a night out on the town. The designer also revealed pinky glitter kitten heels that say “PUSSY POWER” in silver rhinestones.
Ford is an American Fashion designer and film producer that makes those decadent $54 lipsticks. Now he is leaning toward a more powerful look for women. Is this the beginning of a new trend of designers making feminist statements on the runways as Harper’s Bazaar suggests?
“Pussy power” is a feminist statement similar to “girl power” or “black power.” This is part of a larger dialog that includes the #MeToo and Women’s March movements.
In addition to the scandalous bags and shoes, the women’s collection for fall and winter 2018 includes a lot of bulky, colorful jackets worn over black basics with statement earrings. There were a lot of all black ensembles, animal prints and faux fur jackets, metallic suits and retro 80’s and 90’s inspired coats.
The fall and winter 2018 collection is not in stores yet. But these bags and shoes are already getting a lot of attention, possibly because they are covered in glitter and say “PUSSY POWER” in all caps.
