In the post apocalyptic future the world will be ruled by giant robots. Even pop stars like Dua Lipa in “Swan Song” are lucky to collect garbage.
“Swan Song” by Dua Lipa is from the soundtrack to the movie Battle Angel. It’s about a cyborg named Alita who lives in a future filled with garbage and robots. In the official video Dua Lipa encounters Alita in the mirror. Alita is a animated cyborg with giant eyes.
“I won’t stay quiet, I won’t stay quiet/ Cause staying silent’s the same as dying/ I won’t stay quiet, the flicker’s burning low/ This is not a swan song…” sings Dua Lipa in the chorus.
A swan song is the musical sound a swan supposedly makes when it dies. It is also a metaphorical representation for the last thing someone does before they finish. The phrase originates in ancient Greece. Led Zeppelin named their label Swan Song Records when it launched in 1974. And Lana del Rey did a song called “Swan Song” that was track 13 on Honeymoon (2015).
On her official Instagram account Instagram Dua Lipa posted behind the scenes footage at rehearsals and the music video shoot. She is putting a lot of work into it.
Alita: Battle Angel premiers in movie theaters on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2019.
