88 Rising recently signed Lexie Lu Boxin, a Chinese R&B and hip-hop artist. Watch the otherworldly music video for “Sleep Away.”
Lexie Lu is a singer-songwriter who describes her style as R&B and hip-hop. But it could be described as chill indie dance pop in the US. She writes songs in Chinese and English.
“你披著星辰來世界頂端/ (You came to the top of the world with the sky full of stars on your shoulder )/ 陌生熟悉的信任給我心安 (We don’t know each other that well but you got my trust already)/ You are too different from them baby/ (你和他們太不一樣了)/ I hope you know it know it know it…” softly rasps Liu.
Liu, aka Mulan 2029, was in a South Korean reality TV competition series called K-pop Star 5 in 2015. She later turned down a contract from major label YG Entertainment to work as an independent artist. She is credited as the lyricist and composer on “Sleep Away.”
