James Charles Schools Us All on Festival Rainbow Eyes

Viral MUA James Charles posted a how-to tutorial on festival rainbow eye makeup, and he shows us all three of his Coachella looks.

Makeup protégée James Charles was the first male spokesman for CoverGirl in 2016.  He has amassed over four million followers on Instagram and YouTube with his makeup tutorials. He recently posted one in particular about the festival rainbow eyes in his Day 1 Coachella look.

Charles talks at a steady pace for the majority of the 18-minute YouTube video. It feels like he would make a good makeup artist because he would constantly be talking to you about himself, and you could just chill out and look at your phone. He layers an astonishing amount of contour over his face, and spends most of the time concentrating on his elaborate eye makeup.

To go with his festival rainbow eyes, the 18-year-old MUA wore a ninja romper designed by Bryan Hearns, with a black silk Louis Vuitton bandana on Day 1 of Coachella 2018.

On Day 2 he looked like a race car driver with one pant leg missing, red lips and liquid eye liner. Note the Balenciaga sneakers and VIP wristband.

Then on Day 3 of Coachella, Charles broke out the assless, fringed, black leather chaps and a black cropped tee, for a look that was goth and country at the same time.

DAY 3 ?☀ this weekend was absolutely incredible. i went to coachella and was able to bring 6 of my closest friends to celebrate with me, see so many old friends, & also meet so many of u sisters. ? it’s always crazy because i sit in front of a camera and just put makeup on & never really feel that special but then i go to events like coachella and hear people whispering “that’s james charles” or screaming sister and it really sinks in how many of u there are out there that’s just the coolest shit ever. you guys mean the world to me. also, my outfits this weekend were all absolutely sickening and i am so proud of them and felt ridiculously beautiful and confident. i may not be a thick insta baddie but i love my body & had a lot of fun showing it off with looks that i was proud of, which I really don’t do often. you can make fun of me all you want for expressing myself but i loved how i looked and no one can take that away from me. body shaming isn’t cool btw! if u didn’t like my clothes, you can kiss my ass because it was out and ready for u!!

In the caption Charles said the following words about Coachella, “…it’s always crazy because i sit in front of a camera and just put makeup on & never really feel that special but then i go to events like coachella and hear people whispering “that’s james charles” or screaming sister and it really sinks in how many of u there are out there that’s just the coolest shit ever…”

He continued on a tirade about self confidence, “…also, my outfits this weekend were all absolutely sickening and i am so proud of them and felt ridiculously beautiful and confident. i may not be a thick insta baddie but i love my body & had a lot of fun showing it off with looks that i was proud of, which I really don’t do often. you can make fun of me all you want for expressing myself but i loved how i looked and no one can take that away from me. body shaming isn’t cool btw! if u didn’t like my clothes, you can kiss my ass because it was out and ready for u!!”

Strong words and statement eyes from a teenage makeup artist at Coachella.

Festival rainbow eyes were meant to be worn with a candy raver costume, such as these four. Check out the quirkiest, most eccentric shoes designed by Katy Perry.
