Calvin Harris Promised to Remix a Spice Girls Song in 2012

In 2012 Calvin Harris made a drunken promise to remix a Spice Girls song if they legalized same sex marriage in Australia. Now he must honor that vow.

The BBC reports that Calvin Harris is being pressured to remix a Spice Girls song after promising to do so five years ago in an Australian pub.

The world’s richest DJ received a text message from DJ Filip Odzak reminding him of the gentleman’s agreement. Read the juicy details below.

The pair met in 2012 when they were DJing at Stereosonic Festival in Australia. The two made a hand shake agreement, which is a sacred bond, that Harris would remix a Spice Girls track should Australia finally legalize gay marriage. Presumably there was alcohol involved.

Odzak told Newsbeat, “Calvin did a show and a crew of us came along and hung out in the backstage bar / green room. The conversation turned to the topic of wedding songs, I chimed in and said mine would be Spice Girls ‘2 Become 1’ and everyone had a giggle.”

He continued, “Calvin was shocked when we told him that gay marriage wasn’t a reality in Australia yet. I vividly remember his face, he was in genuine shock. I said to him when they finally legalize it you can remix ‘2 Become 1’ to celebrate. He 100% would have thought it was a laugh, and lets be honest, it’s a one in a million conversation, but he shook my hand on the deal.”

“It’s a total gay bridal waltz anthem,” added Odzak.

Then the Australian Senate voted to legalize same sex marriage late last November.

So it looks like Harris has to remix “2 Become 1” (1996) because that is Odzak’s wedding song. Now he can get married and dance to the Calvin Harris remix of “2 Become 1” at the reception.

According to Emma Bunton, aka Baby Spice, the track has always been her favorite.

“Let’s spice up Calvin Harris!” Bunton told Newsbeat,” It would be fab for Calvin to remix ‘2 Become 1.’ It’s always been my favourite Spice Girls song and next week it will be 21 years since it was released as a single. I’m so happy to be celebrating same sex marriage equality in Australia, as a Spice Girl it’s something I’ve been wishing for forever! Love always wins.”
