Balenciaga Declares Love for Techno on Bags & Shirts

Designer label Balenciaga is getting in on the EDM trend with high end shirts, hoodies and handbags that say “I Love Techno” on them.

The Balenciaga spring and summer 2019 collection includes shirts and bags that say “I Love Techno” on them. But do they really love techno, or are they big posers?

On the left you see the Women’s I Love Techno T-Shirt ($550). On the right is the Women’s I Love Techno Hoodie ($1,750). That is a lot of money for a tee and a sweatshirt. But it is made by Balenciaga. And Balenciaga is the top selling designer label in the world.

If you really love techno and “street” fashion, you’ll enjoy the I Love Techno Ville Top Handle S ($2,290) shown above. The small calfskin handbag is also available in extra extra small for $1,850.

But there’s a problem. I Love Techno is the name of a legendary EDM festival that has taken place in France and Belgium every year since 1995. The original lineup included Richie Hawtin and Daft Punk to name a few. There is also an annual I Love Techno compilation to go with the festival that has been mixed by Brodinski, Cassius, Crookers, Erol Alkan, Gesaffelstein, Redhead and Steve Aoki.

Last December I Love Techno Europe 2018 went down with Delta Heavy, Doctor P, Downlink, Rusko and more. Was Balenciaga’s Creative Director Demna Gvasalia even there?

Our take is that techno, or as it is now called EDM, is for everyone to enjoy, even Selena Gomez, and people that can afford over $500 for a t-shirt. That’s what house music was originally about dancing together in a warehouse with people of all different races, creeds and sexual orientations. So if Balenciaga can get away with charging $1,800 for a sweatshirt maybe they should. Or maybe it’s copyright infringement and the I Love Techno Europe people should sue them.
